Cyberpunk 2077’s latest delay has not only taken everyone by surprise, but also led to Path of Exile’s 3.13 expansion being pushed back.
Initially slated for a December 11 launch – one day after Cyberpunk 2077’s new release date –, Path of Exile’s 3.13 expansion has now been moved to January 2021, despite developer Grinding Gear Games being confident about its ability to release it on time.
“We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games, so we have decided to step out of the way and delay the release of Path of Exile 3.13 until January.” reads a forum post from Grinding Gear Games CEO Chris Wilson.
Path of Exile's 3.13 Expansion Delayed Because of Cyberpunk 2077
Although work on 3.13 is expected to be done in December, the delay won’t affect its scope, as the developer will then begin working on the 3.14 expansion.
Path of Exile players will also be treated to “at least one multi-week event (for example, Flashback)” during the Christmas and New Year break to make up for the lack of a fully fledged expansion.
Wilson also admitted that the delay will likely impact the ARPG’s update release schedule going into 2021. He previously described 3.13 as “an Atlas expansion (like War or Conquerors) with an in-area combat league and a few other bits and pieces.”
The studio is also currently working on Path of Exile 2 which is expected to enter beta sometime next year.
