It seems Sony’s PlayStation division is keen on getting additional funds to ramp up its involvement in both mobile and PC spaces.
With Microsoft seemingly out to buy half the gaming industry, Sony needs to find other avenues so it can be less reliant on the console business. It’s already made steps outside by bringing Mobile and PC porting, studios under its umbrella, and PC releases for PlayStation exclusives such as Marvel’s Spider-Man, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Days Gone already having been released.
Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst mentioned going deeper into that cross-platform expansion in an interview with Reuters.
Hulst said, “Further investments in areas that will strengthen the expansion on to PC, on to mobile and into live services, that’s definitely a possibility for us”. Hulst has already overseen several studio acquisitions and game adaptations during his tenure, with a focus on building the PlayStation brand beyond the PS5 and upcoming PSVR2.
It will no doubt be good news for PC players, who will likely get to sample as yet unported titles such as The Last of Us Part II and upcoming blockbusters such as God of War Ragnarok.
