As we start looking forward to 2025’s many exciting releases, including several real-time strategy games, it’s time to explore and uncover some Metroidvania-style indies that might be flying under most people’s radars, too. Enter ReSetna from the Croatian studio Today’s Games.
The game takes place in a world “where organic life has long since perished”, and the main character, ReSetna, is awakened by APEX AI to fight a mysterious threat that’s been teased as ‘the Signal’ by the devs. What comes next is an adventure full of combat and platforming that might feel familiar but has a distinct look. Based on the shiny and clean art direction alone, we can’t wait to check this one out.
Before we give you the full rundown of ReSetna’s key features and you head over to Steam to check out its new demo, you can watch the new trailer below:
Like in any good Metroidvania, ReSetna’s decaying world is full of secrets and rewards the curious “with hidden challenges and untold stories.” As for the overall narrative, it’s apparently influenced by the environmental-storytelling-heavy approach of recent huge games like Elden Ring. The presentation is laced with Nikola Jeremic’s soundtrack; it “fuses retro synthwave and ambientwave, blending organic, distorted sound of decayed instruments with synthetic textures.”
When it comes to the systems and mechanics, chips will enhance ReSetna’s skills and affect how they interact with their surroundings. This is complemented by IXA’s (the loyal drone accompanying them) support abilities. Of course, the mechanical enemies will demand attention and adaptability from the player like in traditional Metroidvanias, so it’s not just about farming upgrades and mashing buttons in order to overcome your obstacles. Veterans of the genre know this, but just a heads-up for newcomers!
ReSetna will launch on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch on January 31, 2025. Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 will follow later in the year.
