Is Remnant 2 going to be playable on Steam Deck? Remnant 2, the sequel to Remnant: From the Ashes, once again thrusts humanity’s survivors into deadly confrontations with ferocious creatures and god-like bosses across nightmarish realms.
Whether you brave the abyss solo or unite with two friends in co-op, you’re likely wanting to know if it runs on your Steam Deck.
The good news is that there has now been a comment on Steam Deck support from Gunfire Games, confirming that it will be available once the game launches on July 25th.
Will Remnant 2 be playable on Steam Deck?
Valve presently uses four distinct classifications to define a game’s compatibility with Steam Deck. A game can be designated as ‘verified’, ‘playable’, ‘unsupported’, or ‘unknown’. While each category holds nuanced implications, for the sake of simplicity, we will concentrate on the current status of Remnant 2 in this context.
As of July 2023, Remnant 2’s Steam Deck support status is officially verified. Gunfire Games confirmed on Twitter that crossplay support will be available once Remnant 2 releases for the PC on the 25th July.

The developer also mentioned the Steam Deck support on Discord, suggesting some ways to optimise it in the settings to get the best performance possible:
“Keep it at 1200x800, you will want to raise up the hub scale too. Make sure settings are low with shadows on Medium, and upscale set to performance. The only change from default is the Shadow settings. I feel this is the perfect balance.”
Although it’s verified and does run, players have found it to be very unstable, dropping frames and not being able to run over 30FPS. Players are claiming on Reddit and the Steam user forums that it’s not an experience you would normally get from a Verified game. It could just be poorly optimized, or perhaps the system requirements are just too steep for what the Steam Deck can handle.
We did actually reach out to Gearbox and Gunfire Games to ask about its status, and if crossplay support will be included, although the publisher wouldn’t comment on either at the time. It’s good to see that it’s finally confirmed Steam deck, now we are just waiting for crossplay.
One thing we can confirm is that Remnant 2 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Additionally, we suggest familiarising yourself with the Archetypes to gear up for the game’s release.
