Resident Evil Village is officially on the way. After a few years’ worth of detours through remake territory, Capcom is preparing to release another mainline entry in the series. Since it’s already shaping up to be one of 2021’s major titles, we’ve gathered everything we know about Resident Evil Village in one place, to make it easier to catch up on the important details.
Resident Evil Village follows in the footsteps of Resident Evil 7 – a much needed shot in the arm for the series – while telling a brand new story but also incorporating a few elements inspired by the fan-favorite Resident Evil 4. Read on below to learn more about what’s in store for us at launch.
Resident Evil 8: Village Release Date
Resident Evil 8: Village’s release date has been scheduled for May 7, 2021, publisher and developer Capcom confirmed during the Resident Evil showcase. Initially announced for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game will also be making its way to the PS4 and Xbox One.
Resident Evil 8: Village Story
Resident Evil Village is set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7 and continues Ethan and Mia Winters’ story. Ethan’s search for his kidnapped daughter sees him exploring Dimitrescu Castle and the village surrounding it, both filled with all manners of horrors.
Judging from the castle’s name and the in-game currency (Leu), the eighth entry in the series seems to take place in Romania or a location inspired by the country.
Based on current information, Ethan goes up against Lady Dimitrescu, her brother, and their monstrous underlings. That’s the second deranged family he has to deal with as he looks to find his daughter, which may or may not be involved in some form of mysterious ceremony.
Chris Redfield also appears in the game, previous leaks and official trailers suggesting that we’ll see him in flashbacks involving Ethan, Mia and their daughter.
Resident Evil 8: Village Gameplay
As far as gameplay goes, Resident Evil Village retains the first-person perspective from the previous mainline entry in the series. Shooting is the main way of dispatching opponents while guarding also comes into play as a vital tool for survival. The enemies revealed so far include the usual shambling villagers and massive brutes wielding two-handed hammers.
Ethan also goes up against Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters who wield sickles, can move around easily by turning into a swarm of insects, and have an affinity for “man blood”.
In terms of weapons, you’ll have access to the likes of pistols, shotguns, SMGs, revolvers, sniper rifles and, potentially, more. Smashing objects in the environment can still uncover helpful items and puzzles will also make a return.
Resident Evil Village also takes inspiration from the fourth game in the series. The merchant – now called the Duke – will sell Ethan useful items. The inventory management system will also feel familiar to fans of the fourth game as will crafting, which lets you replenish first aid items and ammo.
Where can you buy Resident Evil 8: Village and how much does it cost?
On PC, Resident Evil: Village will be available through Steam, but also found on places like the Humble Store. The standard edition costs 59,99€ or your regional equivalent.
You can also purchase the game’s Deluxe Edition if you’re looking to get additional in-game goodies or can opt for the Complete Bundle, which includes both Resident Evil 7 and Village. Console users can find the title on their respective console stores.
