It’s probably fair to say that few of us expected Rising Storm 2: Vietnam to receive a quality of life update – or any update, for that matter –, this November, but patch 1.6.2 is now live on PC, addressing a handful of issues related to server and voice comms.
Dropping after more than three years of silence, the patch is accompanied by the franchise’s deepest sale yet, with publisher Tripwire Interactive promising discounts of up to 95% on the Rising Storm and Red Orchestra games alongside DLC bundles with prices reduced by up to 80%.
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam Patch 1.6.2
The sale runs from November 11 to November 18 on Steam. Its Epic Games Store counterpart lasts between November 12 and November 19.
Publisher Tripwire Interactive will donate a portion of the sale proceeds to various charity organizations serving veterans, in honor of Veterans Day.
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam’s patch 1.6.2 notes aren’t particularly extensive, so it’s doubtful that the publisher is targeting a full-on revival, but if you’ve missed out on the title, picking it up while it’s cheap is certainly the best way to go about it.
Much like its predecessor – and similar multiplayer first-person shooters that lean more towards realism –, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam had its fair share of popularity around launch before its community dwindled to a few hundred players, as indicated by Steam Charts.
This is more than enough to fill servers, but fresh recruits should keep in mind that full matches might not be attainable outside of peak times, while a good portion of the people who still play are likely seasoned veterans.
Nonetheless, both Rising Storm 2: Vietnam and the Red Orchestra series had a certain gritty charm that other titles have yet to capture in quite the same manner, so perhaps this small update and sale helps breathe some new life into them.
