Risk of Rain was part of the indie renaissance back in 2013, and is to this day one of the first titles which made firm the idea of indie games that weren't amateurish attempts at game development, but rather serious and sprawling titles in their own right.
Risk of Rain 2 won't have to fight such an uphill battle anymore, but it will have to contend with its predecessor's pedigree. It's both a blessing and a curse, then, that Hopoo Games, the developers, have made for a significant jump in virtually every aspect in which the two might be compared.
It's been a while since we last heard from Hopoo on Risk of Rain 2, and this was a non-committal of a blog post simply announcing that the game is indeed in active development and that its nature may well change by the time we get to see it next.
Despite this, however, it would seem that the devs stuck to their guns and kept chipping away at an entirely new game engine, because now they've released a fully-fledged teaser trailer - gameplay and all. And yes, Risk of Rain 2 will be fully 3D, which devs have explained with a wish to make a 'real' sequel and not a simple update/refresh.
Risk of Rain 2 will have the players return to the crash site of the Contact Light vessel, and will let them do so both in singleplayer and multiplayer. There's little information available on the game's systems and mechanics, but we can probably expect those to start pouring in soon, as well.
