Rocket Arena is the 3v3 blow ‘em up arena shooter from EA and while it isn’t quite out yet we’ve been taking a look through the available information and beta footage to bring you a little about each map.
Each of the games heroes offer a distinct playstyle and some appear almost tailor made for certain maps, although with the 4 different game modes, what works for one won’t work for the other.
Rocket Arena Maps - The 10 Starting Maps
With the game still in pre-release, we’re sure to see balance changes and map reworks, but the core concept of each map is likely to remain the same. Nonetheless, we’ll be updating this article when we have more information as the release edges closer.
Apogee Acres
Featuring a shooting activated retractable blast window at each end of the map and a chasm to jump in the middle, Apogee Acres is a medium sized map with one end having a lot of open multilevel platforms and the other featuring lots of vertical cover.
Frostwind Grove
A winter wonderland with fairytale spires and plenty of secret passages lets you take advantage of your rocket jumps and avoid incoming fire no matter the game mode.
The Golden Zephyr
The Golden Zephyr is a floating sky ship surrounded by small escort vessels that can act as a great place to recover from KO’s out of the action. The ship itself offers multiple tiers of open spaces to a lot of the fights should take place in the air as people jump from one to another.
Hypersonic Heights
Quite a large map, UFOs move through the world to provide pathing opportunities when running the Rocketball. The central statue situation in the gardens contains the map items to give you team the edge so you can be sure of plenty of fights around the middle.
Icefall Keep
Following the same theme from Frostwind Grove, Icefall Keep is another snowy urban map. It is the biggest map in the game so players should keep together if they don’t want to be too far from help when they need it.
Megadon Junction
The Rocket Rail Line Express train blasts around the map offering the chance for mobile cover but otherwise others a good mix of vertical cover and open spaces.
Shimmering Depths
An underwater map with underwater geysers aiding in vertical movement. Crystal Subs move through the map providing mobile opportunities for rocket jumping.
Star of Crater
A Smallish map that includes lots of vertical cover in the form of tall rock pillars, with many having holes to shoot out through. The middle is a wide open crystal platform and the openness continues to either end of the battlezone where you can see each end of the map from the other.
Stompy's Refuge
One of the smallest maps but with wide paths and a single bridge across the middle. You’ll find many fights taking place in the open space beneath the bridge. Lots of rock cover protects you but makes an easy target of anyone jumping up from behind cover.
Temples of Jaaqua
The last one and one of the biggies, Temples of Jaaqua is a jungle ruin location complete with death pits and spiky floors. With the middle of the map being just a narrow bridge, most fights will happen at the ends, but this also effects the Rocketball mode, where it becomes hard to chase people across the map.
As we’ve said, each hero will play each map differently and figuring out what works best is part of the fun. You can have a look into the heroes in our Rocket Arena Characters article, and find out what we know about the release date.
