Publisher and developer Cellar Door Games today announced that Rogue Legacy 2’s full version has locked down its release date to late April. The genealogical rogue-lite originally launched in early access back in August 2020, receiving multiple updates that fleshed out its gameplay over the course of its stay.
Rogue Legacy 2 builds upon the foundations of the original, improving many of its facets, including the manor that acts as the backbone of its permanent progression system. It also goes for a different aesthetic, trading the first game’s pixel art for 3D characters set against hand drawn backgrounds.
Rogue Legacy 2’s release date sees players putting new weapons, abilities, and classes to good use as they progress through randomly-generated levels. The sequel’s biome generation has also been improved, allowing for “greater strategic choice” as the game’s scope has grown.
Heirlooms add a dash of metroidvania, permanently giving heroes new abilities while traits have also been improved “to bring greater value to their risk versus reward gameplay.”
Rogue Legacy 2 makes “significant strides in accessibility to let players succeed even when they’re struggling,” according to the developer, featuring options that let players toggle contact damage, tweak global damage and health, and use the power of flight for more difficult platform sections, among others.
Rogue Legacy 2’s release date is slated to occur un April 28, when the game launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
If you’ve yet to check out the original in the time since it launched, you’ll be happy to hear that it will also be free on the Epic Games Store this week.
