Will Starfield be available on the PlayStation 5? As is the case with every Bethesda RPG, there’s immense anticipation surrounding Starfield with fans eagerly awaiting its release. However, there’s a growing cloud of uncertainty for many, given the complexities surrounding its PlayStation 5 release.
When Starfield was first announced, it didn’t have a specified release date for PS5 or PS4. During its initial reveal, the game’s platform availability was ambiguous. However, many initially believed that it would eventually be released on Sony’s consoles. After all, with The Elder Scrolls and various other titles from Bethesda’s repertoire being multi-platform releases, it seemed logical to expect a new and eagerly awaited IP like Starfield to take the same path.
Is Starfield going to be released on PS5 or PS4?
The situation surrounding Starfield’s PS5 release date became intricate when Microsoft acquired Zenimax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, thereby consolidating all of the publisher’s titles under its domain.
Following a series of ambiguous tweets from various executives within Xbox and Microsoft, the company ultimately clarified that Starfield would be an Xbox exclusive, ruling out its release on any PlayStation platform.

Additionally, Phil Spencer subsequently mentioned that the decision on whether Bethesda titles would be Xbox exclusives would be assessed on a “case-by-case basis”.
Although stances on matters such as this can change in the long run, one thing is clear: Starfield is not getting a PS5 release date at the same time as it arrives on other platforms.
Whether or not Microsoft will drop the RPG’s Xbox console exclusivity after some time has passed remains to be seen. There are, unsurprisingly, no signs of this happening any time soon.
