With 2019 now behind us, Valve upheld the now-yearly tradition, releasing the list of best-selling games on Steam, giving us a clearer idea of which titles topped the preferences of the storefront’s many users.
As with previous lists of best-selling games, Valve didn’t disclose exact numbers, assigning entries, which include names like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Total War: Three Kingdoms, to four different tiers based on how successful they were.
Steam 2019 Best-selling Game List
The Platinum tier sits at the top of Steam’s 2019 list of best-selling games, featuring the following twelve titles:
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
- Destiny 2
- Warframe
- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- Civilization VI
- Grand Theft Auto V
- DOTA 2
- PUBG
- The Elder Scrolls Online
- Total War: Three Kingdoms
- Monster Hunter World
It’s easy to see that Sekiro, Civilization VI and Three Kingdoms are the outliers in a category otherwise dominated by live service titles, some of which were also found in previous years’ Platinum tiers.
As NPD analyst Mat Piscatella told outlet GameDaily.biz, “this list is by gross revenue, which also includes DLC and microtransactions, so it is reflective not only of the success of the games listed but also of the importance of recurrent spend. There are also a healthy number of free-to-play titles in the mix, which again reflects how consumer preferences are moving.”.
The lower tiers also contain some more live services and free-to-play titles but they’re mixed in with more traditional games such as Planet Zoo, Devil May Cry 5 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
