Stellaris post-launch support shows no signs of stopping, the 3.8 update release date being set to bring a new batch of notable changes to Paradox’s sprawling grand strategy game.
Stellaris’ patch 3.8 launches under the Custodian initiative, whose establishment saw the grand strategy game’s development team split into two.
Stellaris Patch 3.8 Release Date
One half focuses on paid expansion content, while another hacks away at ensuing free patches release every 3 months or so.
This, thankfully, gives us a good sense of when the update’s release date might occur even prior to an official announcement. To start with, the Canis Minor update went live at the middle of March 2023.
Based on the current amount of time the developer gives itself to work on each update, we initially expected the Gemini update 3.8 to arrive at some point in late June or early July 2023.
The developer later confirmed that it will actually drop earlier, on May 9, accompanying the Galactic Paragons expansion.

Paradox gradually provided details regarding the patch’s content, starting with confirmation that nested tooltips, which will be familiar to Crusader Kings 3 players, are finally making their way into the sci-fi grand strategy game.
Initially, they will only be available in Galaxy Settings, as per the screenshot in this post, but the team behind the game aims to implement them “in Empire Creation and beyond” during the patches in the coming year.
They declutter tooltips while allowing players to gain more information by hovering over specific key words relevant to gameplay.
Two new cooperative modes are also on the way, allowing up to five players to control the same empire and work together towards victory.
Presence markers will be added to the UI, showing which tabs are used by teammates and hopefully aiding communication.
Orbital bombardment will be able to secure control of planets in Stellaris patch 3.8, the developer has confirmed, while noting that there are a handful of exceptions.
Bombardment will also be more devastating than in the past and scale with the number of participating ships.
Non-hive mind races are getting four new Capital world designations, in the shape of Forge Capital, Factory Capital, Trade Capital, and Capital Extraction World.
The fleet manager is getting its UI reorganized, while the Sector Editor lets us freely move systems between adjacent sectors.
Players could take part in a scheduled co-op open beta, feedback being expected to be gathered in dedicated threads until April 30.
