Stronghold Kingdoms is the MMO-ish variant of just about everyone's favourite classic medieval real-time strategy game. It features all the best parts of the core Stronghold releases, such as castle designing/building, and unit/resource management, but with an added meta-layer as well.
Allowing players to commit to alliances, engage in wars or - quite simply - raise cattle and grow crops, Stronghold Kingdoms is a rather unique sort of experience, and one that you can now try out via the official Microsoft Store.
Even though the majority of people readily and wholeheartedly ignore the fact that an integrated Microsoft Store does, in fact, exist, since it's already there, you might as well give it a shot, no? What better way to do so other than to engage in a fictional forever-medieval community of warmongers?
Stronghold Kingdoms is, however, a free-to-play title, and with that sort of territory comes the unenviable burden of in-app purchases. If this sort of thing simply rubs you the wrong way, and for this reason you cannot bring yourself to give the game a shot, we've got good news for you!
FireFly Studios are now getting ready to soon officially reveal a brand new Stronghold game. After the relative flop of Stronghold 3, it is understandable that fans of the series are wishing for something with a little more oomph, so here's hoping the devs have nailed down that special something that makes Stronghold - Stronghold.
