Publisher Prime Matter and developer Nightdive Studios have announced that the System Shock Remake, which was originally scheduled to launch at the end of this month, will now be released on May 30, 2023.
The remake has been in development for quite some time and is set to bring back the acclaimed gameplay of the original, with enhanced HD visuals, revamped controls, and a totally new interface.
System Shock Remake Release Date
As we face off against SHODAN, we’ll also encounter a series of enemies that weren’t previously present on Citadel Station, various gameplay tweaks, as well as a new hacking system.
“We had hoped to bring the game to market by the end of March, but that turned out to be just beyond our reach; we are after all merely human (unlike Shodan!),” reads the Steam post announcing System Shock Remake’s new release date.
Initially unveiled back in 2015, the title has had quite a rocky road on the way to launch. As disappointing as it is to hear about a new delay, this one is just a few months and should, hopefully, translate into more polish being added.
To tide us over until May, the demo released during last month’s Steam Next Fest remains available to download.
Pre-ordering System Shock Remake also gets you a copy of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. The remake’s console versions weren’t given a launch window, but should arrive on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4 “in due course.”
