What does Team Fight Tactics’ Game version mismatch error mean? Why does it occur and is there a fix?
The TFT Game version mismatch error has been a constant presence, rendering the auto battler’s players unable to hop in and play matches, especially with friends.
The key to figuring out what the TFT Game version mismatch error means is in its name: your version of Team Fight Tactics is different from your friends’ or from that on the live servers.
TFT Game Version Mismatch Error
You’ll see the TFT Game Version Mismatch Error most often around the time of updates being deployed. This includes both Team Fight Tactics’ big patches but also smaller updates that push quick changes or fixes.
But what can you do when Team Fight Tactics’ Game version mismatch error won’t let you play? Simply closing the game and restarting it should automatically trigger the update, regardless of how small it is. If that doesn’t work, consider validating the game files.
In a worst-case scenario, you could also try reinstalling TFT or hitting up Riot support but, most of the time, that shouldn’t be necessary.
If you’re on mobile, the TFT Game version mismatch error has the same cause and you’ll need to check your app store for a potential update. You should also keep in mind that the patching process is a bit different than on PC.
“PC will patch for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics every two weeks, where the patch will roll out across the LoL regions over the span of a few days. On that first day, Mobile will also roll out a patch. However, where LoL’s and PC TFT’s patches will be going live across several days, the Mobile patch is available across all eligible regions at once”, developer Riot points out.
“Because we don’t want to force an update arbitrarily, updating won’t be required right away. While this is the best case scenario across all devices, that does mean there could be one version of the game on your phone and a different one on your PC”, it continues.
This could prompt the TFT Game version mismatch error to appear. In such cases, you’ll only be able to play with others who have the same version of the game as you, at least until the patches are applied across the board.
With the Team Fight Tactics Game version mismatch error covered and speaking of patches, check out what’s coming in TFT’s 10.13 patch later this month.
