Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Slipgate Ironworks today unveiled a new gameplay video for upcoming real-time strategy game Tempest Rising, showcasing more of the game’s combat, base building, and resource collecting.
Framed as a 1-on-1 multiplayer match between 3D Realms & Slipgate Ironworks CEO Frederik Schreiber, who controls the Global Defence Forces, and Lead Game Designer Brandon Casteel, who plays as the Tempest Dynasty, the gameplay video is also meant to highlight some of the subtler differences between factions.
Tempest Rising Gameplay Video
Tempest Rising gives players the option of starting with a small number of units in the beginning of multiplayer matches, allowing for early scouting missions.
Harvesting Tempest, the precious resource the game’s three factions are fighting over, leaves behind vines that eventually bear fruit of their own, provided they’re close enough to their living pod.
If left untouched, Tempest matures over time, ensuring that the pods are worth more when harvested.
Tempest Rising’s gameplay video also gives us a look at the factions’ unit rosters, which include different types of infantry, alongside unique armor like the long-range Hunter tank for the GDF or the Tempest Dynasty’s flame tank.
Base building is very reminiscent of Command and Conquer and does allow you to construct gates, walls, and defensive turrets to protect structures and valuable harvesters.
Later on, Tempest Rising’s gameplay video showcases combined arms warfare where GDF infantry, armor, and artillery works together to assault a Tempest Dynasty base.
What’s shown so far looks quite promising and Tempest Rising does seem to capture quite well the classic RTS vibe it’s going for.
You can watch its gameplay video on YouTube and follow the game on Steam. If everything goes according to plan, we should get our hands on it later this year, when it launches on PC.
