What are the Best Silent Hill 2 Mods? We’ve hand-picked our favorite mods for Silent Hill 2, ones we think you should use to help you through the eerie fog and unsettling atmosphere of this iconic town.
Most of these mods are cosmetic at the moment, like skins for James and Pyramid Head, while others improve performance on PC by opening up the options for ray tracing and DLSS. Some mods also offer gameplay advantages, which can be used for cheats like Classic Health Indicators, but hopefully, we see unlimited ammo or health mods coming in the future. It’s still early days for the modding community.
UPDATED: We added some new mods to this page on the 22nd of October.

First Person Mod
It’s only the first day of modding Silent Hill 2, and we’ve already got a working prototype for a first-person mod. In this version, James’ character model is completely invisible, which means he won’t appear in cutscenes. However, the mod author is actively working on updates, so this could change in the future. On the plus side, the invisibility makes taking in-game photos much easier, offering a cleaner first-person perspective.
Robbie The Rabbit Hat
This mod replaces the Mira dog hat with Robbie the Rabbit from the PS5 version of the game. Due to current limitations, the replacement is not added as a separate item, but directly swaps with the Mira hat, but the author hopes to change this in the future. Robbie is the mascot of Lakeside Amusement Park and appears in several of the Silent Hill games.
Classic Health Indicator
This mod replaces the full-screen blood effect with the classic cross-health indicator, offering a nostalgic visual callback to the original game’s style, if you prefer it this way, as it isn’t an option provided in the game.
Sunny Hills
This mod transforms the haunting atmosphere of Silent Hill into something a bit more… cheerful. Instead of the modern fog-covered town, you’ll find sunny, bright environments that give the game an entirely different feel, if you’re feeling a touch delicate.
Play as Resident Evil's Leon
Step into the eerie world of Silent Hill 2 as Resident Evil’s iconic protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy. This skin overhaul replaces James Sunderland with Leon from his Resident Evil 4 days.
Silent Hill 2 VR Mod
Using PrayDog’s UEVR program, Nynoen has managed to get the game running in VR and first-person mode using a Quest 3, but you should be able to play with any VR headset. Exploring Silent Hill through James’ eyes creates a horrifying and immersive experience. To resolve camera clipping issues, James’ character mesh has been made invisible, though his shadow remains fully functional, maintaining a sense of presence.
Pyramid The Tank Engine
Bring some of that Sir Topham Hatt (and slightly terrifying) fun to Silent Hill 2 Remake with this mod that replaces Pyramid Head with none other than Thomas the Tank Engine. Just like the hilarious mods you’ve seen in Resident Evil 2 Remake, Thomas chugs his way through the nightmare, turning your horror experience into something both amusing and unsettling. Choo Choo…
Yorha 2B
You can now play as YoRHa 2B from NieR: Automata in Silent Hill 2 Remake. This mod replaces James Sunderland with the sleek and deadly 2B, bringing her stylish combat outfit and futuristic look to the fog-filled streets of Silent Hill.
Play as Leatherface
Unleash terror in Silent Hill by playing as Leatherface, the iconic horror villain from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dead by Daylight. It would be quite horrifying to be chased around by Leatherface in Silent Hill, so maybe we will see a replacement for the Pyramid Head in the future, but for now, you can play as him if you wish.
Improved Weapon Balance
This mod fine-tunes the damage output and handling of weapons in Silent Hill 2, without overpowering the protagonist, James. The mods author andrewRCr feels that weapons are somewhat weak in direct confrontations and boss fights, which, while fitting the game’s tense atmosphere, often led to frustration. There is a 25% increase in damage for most melee weapons (excluding the chainsaw) to enhance their performance in close combat. Firearms have received adjustments to secondary stats for more consistent aiming and behavior across different weapons, with specific boosts to the shotgun (20% increase) and rifle (25% increase). The handgun remains unchanged by default, but a 20% damage increase is available through an optional add-on.
