Victoria 3 has finally arrived and, mere hours after its long-awaited release, so have its very first mods, bringing an initial set of player-made tweaks to Paradox Interactive’s grand strategy game.
Victoria 3’s first mods started by introducing smaller changes, adding additional convenience and flavor to playthroughs. The offering has kept growing in the following weeks and will likely continue to do so as the game’s post-launch support kicks into gear. Read on below for our list of the best Victoria 3 mods.
The Best Victoria 3 Mods
Steam Workshop support makes installing the best Victoria 3 mods easy, by simply subscribing to those that you think may help spice up playthroughs.
Some of the mods on our list are works-in-progress that will receive more features as development continues, while others are already complete but may receive tweaks and updates as new patches for the game are deployed. It’s worth keeping in mind that modders can decide to drop projects or take longer to update them.
If you’re fond of one particular mod that hasn’t been updated in a while, you can play older versions of the game via its various beta branches. To access them, right-click on the game in your Steam library, select Properties, go to Betas, and pick your preferred version from the drop-down menu. Here are the best Victoria 3 mods:
- Improved Automation
- Anbeeld's Revision of AI
- Construction Queue with States
- Complete Pop List
- Dense Market Details/Dense Trade Routes
- Necronomicon
- Free Console Access
- Visible Pop Needs
Improved Automation
Our first pick might not vastly alter how the game plays but improves the Auto Expand feature by increasing the number of elements taken into account by the AI before opting to expand a building it’s tasked to manage. In the long run, this should allow it to help better manage your economy while you focus on other things. Grab it from Steam Workshop.
Anbeeld's Revision of AI
Anbeeld’s Revision of AI mod aims to make non-player countries stronger without resorting to granting any unfair bonuses. Its initial iteration focuses on economy, which should translate to the AI doing a better job at developing their countries, more efficient at taxing their people, and choosing production methods. Find it on Steam Workshop.
Construction Queue with States
Making sense of the vanilla game’s construction queue can prove a bit tricky early on and this mod aims to give you a better sense of where buildings are constructed by pinpointing the states in which they’re built and reducing the size of each item, so more can be viewed at once. Grab it from Steam Workshop.
Complete Pop List
Pops play a major role in Victoria 3 and one of its best mods lets you get a quick and complete overview of all of them using their dedicated panel. Find it on Steam Workshop.
Dense Market Details/Dense Trade Routes
Navigating through the Victoria 3’s many menus and tabs can drag on. The Dense Market Details and Dense Trade Routes Victoria 3 mods both offer more information at a glance in their respective areas, helping you become more efficient at managing your country’s economy.
Necronomicon
Victoria 3 prides itself with its deep simulation of the Age of Progress and the nations involved, but if you’re looking to veer away from history a bit, you can add some Lovecraftian flavor to the mix with the Necronomicon mod. It introduces the R’lyehian and Innsmouther cultures, a new landmass, alongside the nation of R’lyeh. You also get to uncover the contents of a Cthulhu Mythos-themed journal that includes 11 supporting events, and much more. Find it on Steam Workshop.
Free Console Access
Another smaller entry on our list of the best Victoria 3 mods, this one lets you bring up the game’s console at the press of one button. The mod’s creator does note that it’s a “very sloppy workaround” that won’t be compatible with mods that change the user interface, but it should provide value if you’re going for a (mostly) vanilla playthrough. Subscribe to it through Steam Workshop.
Visible Pop Needs
Furthering efforts to reduce the amount of clicking required to obtain valuable information, this Vicky 3 mod makes the needs of your pops more easy to see by rearranging and resizing certain UI elements. It’s hard to complain about having to navigate fewer menus and you can do so by grabbing the mod from Steam Workshop
Non-essential Victoria 3 Mods
- Extra Autosave Slots
- Minor Economy Modifications
- Shattered World - Every state a country
- Yellow Prussia
- No Clouds
- Adopt Western Clothes
- Mediterranean Architecture
- Thomas the Tank Engine
- Visual Methods
