Free-to-play first-person shooter The Finals blends impressive amounts of destruction with tight gunplay, making it one of the free-to-play first person shooters whose release date has made it onto many prospective players’ radar.
A title worked on by a team that includes ex-Battlefield developers, The Finals encourages creative kills without robbing you of the possibility to just squeeze the trigger and fill people up with lead. Read on to learn everything we know about The Finals, including when its release date might occur, how it plays, and more.
The Finals Release Date
The Finals is aimed for a late 2023 release date. A closed beta event was hosted before the title finally launches, giving us one more chance to provide feedback prior to the title’s launch.
It was then rumored to make an appearance during 2023’s The Game Awards, with some suggesting that it could be a surprise launch this evening.
The host of The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, sparked intrigue by teasing an energy drink, which is a fictional brand featured in the game.

The Finals’ release date then occurred on December 8, 2023, confirming its fans’ surprise launch theory.
The Finals Story
The Finals’s story revolves around a combat-centered game show that fuels a desire for massive amounts of on-screen destruction and filling other contestants with lead.
It’s unclear at the moment whether or not the title might launch with an in-depth narrative, but the footage seen so far suggests that Embark Studios might opt for a gameplay-first with this project.
The Finals Gameplay
The Finals promises a blend of melee and ranged combat, the latter being particularly potent, thanks to its ability to wipe out entire sections of levels alongside any enemies present there.
We’ll have access to a variety of skills spread across different body builds, as well as a rich arsenal of weapons and gadgets that we can use to cause mayhem.
Naturally, high amounts of destruction means that The Finals’ maps change as matches progress. One well-placed explosion could make certain areas harder to reach while opening up new paths altogether to others.
Four teams of three fight over objectives like valuable crates, in both a more casual mode and a more involved Tournament-style setting.
Assault rifles, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives, and other equally deadly tools help us get the upper hand, as we navigate and reshape maps based on real-life locations.
The Finals Price and Storefronts
The Finals uses a free-to-play business model, so we’ll be able to jump in as soon as it launches without paying a single cent. The first-person shooter is expected to launch on PC, via Steam, PS5 (via the PS Store), and Xbox Series X/S (via the Microsoft Store).
