The Surge 2 is out now, and it's a dangerously tough sci-fi Souls-alike with many hours of content - but is all of that single-player? Is there the chance for The Surge 2 multiplayer or co-op, or is the entire game played offline?
Let's have a look to see if there's any sort of The Surge 2 co-op, or any competitive online play of any kind. Dark Souls, of course, has player invasions - which can either help you with tough fights or try to murder you. Does The Surge 2 have that, or is it entirely offline? Let's have a look.
Is there The Surge 2 multiplayer, co-op, or online play?
The Surge 2 has some online functionality, but it can be played entirely offline and in single-player - and it won't change the game at all, really. You'll still be treated to an extremely tough Soulsborne experience, but can you get some help from other players in some of those boss encounters, like you can in Dark Souls?
Sadly, the answer is no. Just like in Deck13's previous Souls-like games The Surge and Lords of the Fallen, there is no co-op or competitive online multiplayer in The Surge 2. Which is a bit of a shame, because there's no way to join a friend and help them to finish off a troublesome part of the game. Then again, there are no player invasions either, so that's a good thing...?
So what online functionality is there in The Surge 2? You can leave tags around the game world for other players to find, to warn them of dangers or steer them towards hidden goodies. You can also place a holographic "banner" somewhere - the longer it goes without being found by another player, the more scrap you earn! These fun things aside - there is no way to play alongside other players in The Surge 2. Shame.
