Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham unveiled The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as their upcoming asymmetrical horror title during The Game Awards 2021. Its short announcement trailer focused more on atmosphere rather than showing off gameplay or revealing a release date.
Based on the 1974 horror movie with the same name, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is Gun Interactive’s second attempt to bring a popular horror franchise into the video game space, following the release of Friday the 13th. A rights dispute brought the release of post-launch content for the latter game to a halt.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Release Date
“While it is true that most folks seem to think of asymmetrical gameplay as 1 vs Many, in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, the family is an important part of the story to tell,” reads a post on the game’s official website.
“How each member of the family works within the greater team, well that’s completely up to you. A deep metagame and progression system will give you the tools to pick your place at the family table.”
The developers are striving for building an authentic world based on the 1974 film, but have yet to reveal a whole lot about how the game will play or what platforms it is currently targeting.
Pinpointing The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s exact release date was a bit difficult initially, but we did know that the game is slated to launch at some point in 2023. The publisher revealed as much in June 2022, during the extended Xbox Games Showcase.
- The Texas Chain Saw Massacre release date: August 18, 2023
In mid-March 2023, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s release date was locked in to August 18, 2023. The title is headed to PC, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4. It will also host a technical test prior to launch. |
