We're not even at the launch of the first season of The Witcher Netflix series - the upcoming TV show based on the novels that inspired The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - and already we can look forward to more, as it has now been confirmed that The Witcher Season 2 is on its way.
A second season of The Witcher TV show was confirmed by showrunner Lauren Hissrich earlier today, and was teased with a picture of two swords - which of course, Geralt always carries in the games. The Witcher Season One is due to launch December 20.
Hissrich took to Twitter to reveal that The Witcher Netflix show has been confirmed for Season 2. You can see the tweet below, where she praises the cast and crew - and confirms that Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back at least, although she leaves the fates of the other characters up in the air. Rightfully so, as Season 1 doesn't premier on Netflix until December 20.
I’m so thrilled to announce: Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back for more adventures... in Season Two.

I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us. ❤️⚔️🐺 pic.twitter.com/evWoHvUl1e
Netflix is clearly confident that The Witcher will be a success, if it's commissioning a second season before the first has even aired. Then again, it's quite a high-profile name, and as Netflix releases its seasons all in one go it probably has to decide whether to go ahead with more shows long before airing them - just to get production going faster.
In the same interview with SFX magazine where Geralt actor Henry Cavill confirmed that he's a big PC gamer who used to hold LAN parties, showrunner Hissrich confirmed that she had already "mapped out" stories for seven seasons of the show. "The worst thing we could do," she said, "is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to."
The Witcher Season 1 will debut on Netflix on December 20. As for Season 2? It's probably a long way off.
