Two Point Hospital, the spiritual sequel to Theme Hospital, is out on August 30. It's being billed as a return to the classic sim days of Bullfrog.
If you know Theme Hospital and Bullfrog, you'll know that their other game in the Theme sim series was Theme Park, the classic that inspired Rollercoaster Tycoon and Planet Coaster. In our recent play of Two Point Hospital, we noticed a suspicious theme park on the map screen... could Two Point Studios be going full circle and doing a new Theme Park? 'Two Point Park' perhaps?
We asked Technical Director and Studio Co-Founder Ben Hymers and Art Director Mark Smart about the Two Point County theme park on the map, and whether it had any special significance for a future game... the surprisingly definitive answer was "no".
"The whole idea that we set Hospital in this county is that we’d be able to do other things," Mark told us. "We want to explore other avenues in this little universe of ours. That’s an interesting one, but there’s no great significance to it! It’s just cute."
"It just looks nice!" Ben added. "Everything’s on the table, anything mundane we could make a silly version of, but Theme Park has been done a bit too much, and there’s some great games in that type. We wouldn’t want to go up against them, and it’d be a bit silly for us to do that. We want to do something different."
So there you have it folks, you may see a theme park on the Two Point county map when Two Point Hospital releases on August 30, but it's just a neat reference - not a plan for another game.
