Creative Assembly continues its series of Total War: Warhammer 3 faction reveals, today focusing on the ever-pestilential daemons of Nurgle. Ku’gath Plaguefather, the Rotting Poxmaker, leads the faction into battle from atop his massive palanquin carried by Nurglings, seeking to both extend the Plague Lord’s influence and create new, powerful contagions.
Ku’gath Plaguefather tests his diseases on the battlefield, “by launching fusillades of infected Nurglings into the enemy’s midst.” He’s also quite resilient himself, and capable of dishing out damage both in melee and at range, where he uses spells belonging to the Lore of Nurgle.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Nurgle Race
Nurgle’s armies are described as a “highly resilient wall of diseased flesh with regenerative capabilities that relish locking the enemy into melee combat and grinding them down with poisonous attacks and strategic attrition,” contrasting Tzeentch’s more mobile, magic-focused troops.
The faction unlocks bonuses in battle by sustaining damage, granting access to the Rot Glorious Rot ability that “spreads through the enemy ranks like a potent plague.”
If you choose to play as them, you’ll do your fair share of plague-spreading on the campaign map as well, debuffing affected enemy units while buffing nearby allied troops. They can also instantly summon units into their armies, albeit at reduced strength, and use “cyclical buildings that organically grow and die.”
While Plaguebearers and Nurglings hold the line, Great Unclean Ones, Plague Toads, and Beasts of Nurgle deal damage and provide support. You can get a glimpse at the Nurgle’s horrific armies in the video below, which also features Total War: Warhammer 3’s fourth and last Chaos god, Slaanesh. The two don’t seem to have much love for each other.
