Counting among Warhammer 3’s smaller updates, patch 5.3 will certainly bring us a new batch of fixes and tweaks but could also also see a minor serving of new content, whether in the shape of new units, reworks, or anything else that the developer considered necessary before the launch of its next major update.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Patch 5.3 Release Date
Although the developer has yet to directly address the exact release date of patch 5.3, it has confirmed that more details about it are set to be shared “towards the end of October.”
- Total War: Warhammer 3 Patch 5.3 release date: October 2024
On October 23, 2024, Creative Assembly confirmed that Patch 5.3’s release date is on track to occur before the end of the month.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Patch 5.3 Content
Content-wise, Warhammer III’s patch 5.3 brings changes to the Ogre Kingdoms, preparing the race for the upcoming DLC which gives it a brand new lord.
To this extent, mercenary recruitment is being reworked, increasing the cap for this type of units to three per army. Mercenary pools replenish at a rate of 1 unit every 5 turns, while unit quality is determine by camp tier.
Furthermore, the following units can now be recruited as mercenaries:
- Ogre Bulls
- Ogre Bulls (Dual Weapons)
- Maneaters (Ogre Pistols)
- Mournfang Cavalry
- Ogre Giant
Since the developer plans on “doing much more” with mercenary contracts when the upcoming DLC launches, the current system will be renamed to bounties.
This rework gives the system a new UI and turns it into a “rolling objective system” rather than one that appears every 10 turns while no longer forcing you to pick a single objective to pursue from the available set.
The ancillary system was also due to receive a rebalance in Total War: Warhammer III’s patch 5.3, but the developer needs to spend more time on developing it.
That being said, we are still getting 18 new generic ancillaries that should be particularly good news for ranged damage dealers.
Furthermore, randomly dropped unique ancillaries are also being introduced, allowing heroes and lords to discover and equip special items, such as a map that greatly increases campaign movement range while adding a risk to randomly teleport to other regions at the end of the turn.
The studio’s efforts to improve the trees on the third entry’s battle maps continues with 46 of them receiving tweaks. The multiplayer meta also sees some shifts thanks to a series of balance changes detailed in the article linked above.
Lastly, the Vampire Counts roster is about to grow with the Grave Guard (Halberds) unit.
Creative Assembly has been working to better meet player expectations over the last months, both through beefier DLC and updates as well as improved communication.
We’ll see whether or not the studio can maintain its recent win streak when Warhammer III’s patch 5.3’s release date comes around.
