The world of Warhammer Fantasy is so immense that it’s no wonder it has taken Creative Assembly two games and countless DLC to realise even part of it. However, Warhammer 3 is coming soon, bringing with it the missing factions.
This instalment brings us the lands of the East, full of oriental flavour and the bizarre magic of the Chaos Gods. One of these factions belongs to Tzeentch, the God of Knowledge, and Creative Assembly has now shared its official army roster, revealing all the units we’ll control and meet on the battlefield.
Total War: Warhammer 3 Tzeentch Roster
The Daemons of Tzeentch are led into battle by Kairos Fateweaver, a two-headed being that boasts “unsurpassed magical knowledge and capability,” being aware of both the past and the future, yet unable to see the present at it unfolds. Like every other unit in Tzeentch’s army, he comes equipped with Barrier, a shield that recharges out of combat, acting essentially as an additional health bar, encouraging a hit-and-run approach to combat.
Kairos’ Fragments of Magic skill allows him to equip fragments of other spell lores, giving him access to several spells from the equipped lore, with the caveat that only one fragment can be equipped at a time. His Staff of Tomorrow greatly reduces the cooldowns of his spells, while the Gaze of Fate paralyzes an enemy unit, reducing its melee attack value.
As far as Lords go, we’ll get to control the Exalted Lords of Change and Herald of Change, who both can specialize in either the Lore of Metal or the Lore of Tzeentch, the latter of which focuses on offense, including spells that deal direct damage and greatly debuff enemy troops. The more spells Tzeentch’s forces cast, the quicker they gain access to additional magical abilities.
Tzeentch’s infantry ranks are made up of Forsaken of Tzeentch and Blue Horrors which, while proficient in melee, can also pelt enemies with magical fire as they charge in. Like all demons, they begin to disintegrate should their morale drop too low.
Doom Knights of Tzeentch act as airborne shock cavalry, while Flamers of Tzeentch and their Exalted variants act as mobile flamethrowers that can be devastating if positioned properly. Tzeentch’s Soul Grinders are no less massive than their counterparts in the other Chaos Gods’ armies, being able to fire long-range, anti-large magic spears, while their attacks are both magical and armor-piercing.
