Tropico 5 is today’s freebie on the Epic Games Store and new players picking it up might be wondering if multiplayer and co-op allow them to dictate the fate of banana republics alongside their buddies.
Since Tropico 5 is an older game from a time before ray tracing and DLSS became the talk of the town, veteran players might also take this opportunity and jump back into multiplayer and co-op to help newbies understand how to administer proper freedom to their virtual subjects.
That’s because, yes, Tropico 5 multiplayer and co-op are both available as soon as you launch the game. You’ll see the former as an option in the main menu and clicking on it lets you set up your own dynasty of dictators before jumping into a game alongside other human players.
You can join other public games – provided any are available – or start your own. Whether you choose to collaborate with your fellow players or compete against them, you can set up such things as starting era and money amounts, the likelihood of disasters happening, as well as victory conditions.
Tropico 5’s multiplayer maps support either 2 or 4 players. They’re spread across two pages and while all of them plop you on green islands in the middle of the ocean, their layouts enable different approaches to placing down buildings.
You can lose many hours in Tropico 5’s multiplayer and co-op, but once you’re satisfied enough with the amount of not-oppression and not-starvation that you’ve inflicted upon your followers (and survived enough assassination attempts), our list of the best city builders on PC has more awesome titles to choose from.
