UK games market has now reached an all-time record of £5.7 Billion in yearly earnings, making for a substantial 10% growth from 2017. This information was shared as per the Games Impact Summit, which is part of the London Games Festival Hub conference.
Data was revealed by Ukie, the UK games and interactive entertainment industry trade body, who also provided us with a detailed summary of how much each area of gaming earned in 2018, which also makes for some interesting insight.
According to Ukie, software revenue is king yet once more, with it going over £4bn in 2018, a 10% growth from 2017's stats. This includes full game downloads, DLC, and MTX, of course. That said, gaming hardware saw a similar sort of growth, too, with about a 10% increase from 2017 for £1.57bn in revenue.
Perhaps most interesting is that PC gaming hardware is going strong still, with sales increasing by 18.4% for £445m, and with gaming peripherals and accessories, in particular, growing by 19.9%, for £355m in revenue.
On the other hand, VR hardware was going through tough times in 2018, with total revenue dropping for about 21%, earning as little as £72m. That still a lot of money, mind, but the trend is clearly now shifting away from VR in the United Kingdom.
