When announcing Valheim’s Ashlands update, developer Iron Gate confirmed that difficulty settings are in the works alongside new clothes for player characters and more accessibility settings.
In March 2023, we got a look at the biome’s rough and dangerous terrain. Navigating parts of it seems to require extra care, given the amount of flames one can encounter.
One month later, a work-in-progress version of the game’s upcoming customizable difficulty settings was shared via social media platform X, including several sliders for combat, death penalty, and resources, alongside a couple of presets.
Siege engines were also revealed during the same month. They should be useful when taking down the fortresses spread across the new biome. In addition, we also got to see work-in-progress models for the Charred and Fallen Valkyrie enemies.
May 2023 brought us a look at a few items that drop from monsters in Valheim Ashlands update alongside an eagle that may or may not have bloodshed on its mind.
In August, we received an update on terrain improvements, with the team focusing on giving the elevation distinct characteristics compared to the game’s other biomes. Additionally, a screenshot was shared, reaffirming that lava continues to play a pivotal role in the Ashlands environment.
A fiery new foe was then revealed in September 2023, before the teasers continued with a neat screenshot of weaponry that we’ll use to vanquish enemies great and small.
Fittingly, in November we were shown new armor designs alongside an image of one fortress that waits in Valheim’s Ashlands update. Needless to say, both look very ominous indeed.
Expect to be able to cook with new recipes, including Mashed Meat, a Piquant Pie, or perhaps a Spicy Marmalade. You will also be able to imbue weapons with gems to give special properties and upgrades.
The first gameplay trailer for Ashlands will be aired on the 22 April. You can view it below in the embedded video, next week.
“The fire ignites… Are you prepared to conquer Valheim’s most challenging biome yet?”
That is what we know so far about Valheim’s Ashlands update.
More details will likely be shared in the lead-up to its currently unannounced launch, but it is expected to be released very soon now.
