Developer Iron Gate today shared more details about how Valheim’s Hearth & Home update will rework the popular survival game’s food system and how it will impact players looking to brave its dangerous world.
Currently, food items in Valheim grant players similar amounts of stamina and health. The Hearth & Home Update will vary things up a bit by splitting them into three separate categories marked by color-coded icons.
Yellow items will grant more stamina than health, red items grant more health than stamina, and white items grant an equal amount of food and stamina, but seemingly not as much as either of their more specialized peers.
The food bar is also getting removed when Valheim’s Hearth & Home Update launches and replaced with handy new timers that more clearly indicate how long the bonuses granted by each item last.
“This new health versus stamina balance allows you to be more creative and varied in your playstyle,” the developer explains. “If you want to stay in your base to build and terraform, you’ll want long-lasting food that gives you enough stamina to keep building but also enough health, so that you don’t fall to your death.”
When out in the world, you may want to prioritize either stamina or health. Your choice of stat is said to more heavily influence your combat style, but the developer didn’t go into detail on how exactly it will play out just yet.
That is, however, the topic of its next video spotlight for Hearth & Home, so we hopefully won’t have to wait too long until we learn more. Valheim is out now on PC.
