Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 has just been rated by the ESRB, meaning that the game could be nearing completion and might release as soon as this year. Paradox later confirmed today that it will be released in October 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
After years of delays, Bloodlines 2 now has a rating by the ESRB. Games don’t usually get rated until they’re almost ready for release, hinting that an announcement was imminent. The game has been rated as Mature (17+), citing Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, and Suggestive Themes as the reasons for this rating.
The rating reads:
“This is an action role-playing game in which players help two vampires regain their memories and their powers to stop an uprising. From a first-person perspective, players explore city streets, investigate murders, interact with characters, and battle vampires in melee-style combat.
“Players use physical attacks (e.g., claw slashes, kicks, feed/bite attacks) and vampiric powers (e.g., telekinesis, possession) to kill enemy vampires. Players can also employ stealth attacks (e.g., neck snap, feed attack) to kill enemies discreetly. Battles are frenetic, accompanied by impact sounds, realistic gunfire, and large blood-splatter effects.
“Some attacks can result in close-up sequences of players’ character decapitating and/or impaling enemies. A handful of areas depict decapitated corpses in pools of blood; large bloodstains also appear in several environments. The game contains suggestive/sexual material in the dialogue (e.g., “snacking on whres,”; “pssy musta…real sweet”; and “D*ldo of consequence don’t come lubed, does it?”). The word “f**k” is heard in the game.”
Despite the lackluster sales of the first game, which released in 2004 (it was competing with Half-Life 2 and Halo 2, to be fair), a sequel was commissioned shortly after Paradox acquired White Wolf in 2015. Hardsuit Labs was originally at the helm, until several delays caused key staff to leave the project. Eventually, the game was handed over to The Chinese Room.
The Chinese Room had made a name for itself developing narrative games such as Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. The developer has also made a few horror games like Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Still Wakes the Deep. Bloodlines 2 will be the first RPG by the studio, though, meaning players are holding their breath to see how it turns out.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2025.
