The division between PC gaming and console gaming is thinning more and more in the past few years. For example, many Steam indie titles have been ported to the Nintendo Switch, while the grand strategy space game Stellaris has landed on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Now, French indie developer Shiro Games has announced that their Viking real-time strategy game Northgard will be landing on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the Switch later this year. When discussing the difficulties of porting an RTS over to console, CEO and co-founder at Shiro Games Sebastien Vidal related, “We have worked hard to optimize Northgard for the controller, and to be played on the go in the Switch version.”
Northgard hit Early Access back in early 2017, and quickly sold over 1 million copies and earned an 80 Metacritic score.
For the uninitiated, Northgard is a Viking-themed real-time strategy game where players settle new territories, and fight off foes ranging from dire wolves to undead warriors to giants to giant dragons. Players choose village locations based on local resources and riches.
Finally, the console version of Northgard will include all the content found in the Steam base version as well the major Ragnarok and Relics updates, which features six clans, a lengthy campaign, cooperative and competitive online play across various maps, which includes the apocalyptic-themed Ragnarok ranked play.
