One question that inevitably pops into your mind as you set off on your Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader asks whether or not you can change your companion’s convictions, convincing them to see things your way.
Rogue Trader’s convictions are the equivalent of alignment in other games, reflecting the beliefs that guide a character and, thus, being deeply linked to their personality. But while the protagonist’s can change as you make important decisions during quests both major and minor, those of your companions seem to be more set in stone.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Change Convictions
Convictions are represented through three different philosophies: Dogmatic, Iconoclast, and Heretical. Each one has five ranks and you can initially progress freely through all of them,
Once any conviction reaches rank 3, it becomes the protagonist’s main focus, rendering it impossible to gain more than two ranks in the remaining two philosophies.
The bonuses each rank bestows can help significantly during your campaign, so changing your companion’s alignment in Rogue Trader sounds very appealing. Who wouldn’t want a full party of heretic zealots who fully embrace the Ruinous Powers?
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to change your companion’s convictions in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, at least from what we’ve seen so far.
All the choices that have an alignment attached to them solely affect the Rogue Trader’s. We also didn’t bump into any opportunities to debate decisions with other characters and convince them that our approach is better.
That being said, we are talking about a sprawling cRPG, and developer Owlcat Games is known to hide many surprises inside its titles.
Provided we reach a point/discover a choice or device that lets us alter our companion’s alignment, we’ll be sure to update this article.
That is what we currently know about whether or not you can change your companion’s convictions in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
