The first big free content update for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 has dropped, bringing with it many new features to enhance the game.
Most notably, developers Fatshark have added Mod Support for Vermintide 2 at last, including on Steam Workshop.
Fatshark have posted a guide to Vermintide 2 mods here, including the difference between 'Sanctioned' and 'Unsanctioned' Mods. There is now an option on the game's launcher to switch between 'Official' and 'Modded' Realms. While Fatshark allow any sort of mod on the Modded Realm, content here does not "give new drops, allow challenge/quest completion or grant XP."
To become a sanctioned mod on the Official Realm, with full support as if you were playing the normal game, they have to be approved by Fatshark and only include "quality of life mods, certain UI mods and similar". They haven't yet approved an application form for sanctioning mods yet, so all mods will have to be played in the unofficial Modded Realm until it's available - they estimate around summer 2018.
We're not sure how strict Fatshark will be with modding. They have laid out a few interesting rules but we don't know if they will be enforced -
- Ensure that no third party IP is present.
- Do not include or alter content in a way that is offensive or denigrating to the World of Warhammer Fantasy Battles.
- Apart from Warhammer Fantasy Battles content, please do not include other Games Workshop IPs like Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40,000 which is separate and often licensed to other companies, or used in other games.

Aside from modding, the new free update also adds over 100 new cosmetics including skins, hats, and portrait frames, as well as daily quests and challenges.
