Getting into World of Warcraft is a process that requires a fair bit of your time, even after its Shadowlands expansion revamped the entire leveling experience to make it faster. If you don’t feel like spending hours going through old content before exploring its latest narrative arc, chances are you’re eyeing the game’s character boost service.
World of Warcraft’s character boost allows you to jump straight into the MMORPG’s newest content, which can be worth the high price tag if you want to quickly join a friend who’s starting off or get tired of your main but don’t feel like leveling another alt.
World of Warcraft Character Boost Guide
You can get your hands on a WoW character boost in two ways. One is included with the Heroic and Epic editions of Shadowlands and, possibly, subsequent expansions.
If you’ve already used that boost or opted for the newest expansion’s standard edition, you’ll also find it available as a separate purchase that sets you back $60.00/€60.00, which easily makes it one of the pricier services you’ll find on the Battle.net shop.
Available WoW character boosts will show up on the character select screen, near the top of your character list. Click it to start the process. From that point on, menu prompts will guide you through the entire thing.
You can opt to level one of your existing characters – regardless of the level they’re actually at – or create a new one to boost. There’s arguably more value in boosting a level 1 character over a level 44 character, but that choice is ultimately yours to make.

After you select your desired character, you’ll need to choose its specialization, which determines the initial set of boosted gear it’ll be assigned.
It’s worth keeping in mind that boosted characters become ineligible to obtain their heritage armor sets, rewarded upon leveling a character all the way to level 50.
Once you’ve locked in your character and specialization, you’ll have to wait for the boosting process to complete. How long it takes varies depending on a number of factors, but it should usually be done in a matter of minutes or several hours.
Once it’s complete, you’ll have a fresh level 60 character – as of the Shadowlands expansion – whose inventory contains a set of gear and supplies that should make starting your journey across Azeroth and beyond it easier.
Before setting off, you’ll need to go through a short tutorial sequence that teaches you how some of your specialization’s basic spells work. Afterwards, a quest should guide you towards the place that lets you dive into the latest expansion’s content.
That’s what you need to know about World of Warcraft’s character boost works.
