Blizzard has released the second episode in its most recent series of World of Warcraft animated shorts, titled Shadowlands Afterlives: Maldraxxus.
As its name implies, Shadowlands Afterlives: Maldraxxus focuses on the area ruled by the Necrolord covenant while introducing another important figure from the Warcraft universe’s past that will be featured in the MMO’s upcoming expansion.
If the first episode focused on Uther Lightbringer and his struggles in Bastion to overcome his death at Arthas’ hands, Maldraxxus puts Thrall’s mother, Draka, in the spotlight.

Upon death, Draka was sent to Maldraxxus, which she reveals to be lead by five houses, working together to protect the Shadowlands.
It’s there where she took up training with the House of the Eyes, embracing subterfuge and agility which she put to good use.
Aside from establishing her as an important figure in Maldraxxus, the second Shadowlands Afterlives short also gives us a clearer idea of the zone’s aesthetic, inhabitants, and hierarchy.
Gone are Bastion’s angelic figures and bright colors, replaced by undead, lots of green, and a considerably more barren land.
The video, which you can watch below, also establishes the conflict that players will likely have to solve as they adventure through Maldraxxus in WoW’s next expansion.
Two more Shadowlands Afterlives episodes are scheduled to release on September 10 and September 17, focusing on the remaining zones of Ardenweald and Revendreth.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is slated for an October 27 release.
