World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ Patch 9.1 has been officially announced during BlizzConline 2021. Called Chains of Domination, the MMORPG’s first major update furthers the Jailer’s story, removing the shroud around his dark plans.
Players will rally alongside their covenants to stop Zovaal, as they explore a new zone and gain the ability to use flying mounts in the expansion’s four covenant zones. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ Patch 9.1 also introduces a new raid, set in Torghast, a Broker-themed megadungeon, and more.
The Chains of Domination trailer revealed the Jailer’s intentions for Anduin and, without spoiling anything for those who didn’t tune in last night, they’re not good news for the four covenants. Luckily, the Kyrian, Necrolord, Night Fae, and Venthyr are ready to fight back against the Jailer. In Patch 9.1, players will help them establish a foothold within the Maw, the area itself expanding.
New parts of the Maw will open, including Korthia, the City of Secrets, which adds new quests, activities, and wildlife. The Attendants and Protectors also have a presence there. The Maw will throw new foes and players but trusty mounts will finally answer their owners’ call, which is great news if grinding the Twisting Corridors didn’t prove too appealing.
The new 10-boss raid, Sanctum of Domination, takes us to an unexplored part of Torghast, where we’ll confront Sylvanas Windrunner herself. The raid’s conclusion will “change the future of the Shadowlands,” according to Game Designer Jeremy Feasel. Kel’Thuzad also makes an appearance and we’ll learn more about the creature behind the Eye of the Jailer that currently makes our life hell while traversing the Maw.
Tazavesh, the Veiled Market is WoW Patch 9.1’s megadungeon that features 8 bosses and is set in a Broker trading city. It’s here where we’ll learn more about the Brokers themselves, but also face a pirate Infinite dragon in its latter section. The megadungeon will only be available on Mythic difficulty at launch, however, that could change later on.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ Patch 9.1 largely builds on the expansion’s strong foundation, judging by what was shared, which is precisely what the MMORPG needs at the moment. You can watch the full update video below and get a look at the new covenant-specific flying mounts.
