World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s quests often use a template that’s familiar to anyone who’s played previous expansions. But completing some, like The Thane of Voldrune, is a bit more fun thanks to the addition of elements like vehicles or a dragon with its own separate abilities.
To pick up WotLK Classic’s The Thane of Voldrune quest, you’ll have to head to the Grizzly Hills zone and talk to Sergeant Nazgrim at Conquest Hold (if Horde) or Woodsman Drake at Amberpine Lodge (if Alliance).
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic The Thane of Voldrune Quest
Regardless of which side you’re on, WotLK Classic’s The Thane of Voldrune progresses exactly the same. Your objective is to eliminate Thane Torvald Eriksson, who waits on top of one of the towers inside Voldrune.
The interesting part is that you can actually use the flame-imbued talismans you previously acquired to control Flamebringer, the thane’s proto-drake. It waits chained up inside Voldrune. Simply interact with it and select the only available dialogue option to take control of the beast.
Flamebringer has three abilities. Flame Breath is a simple projectile that deals fire damage. Wing Buffet stuns the thane for a short period of time while also knocking him down.
Molten Fury inflicts a set amount of fire damage, then some more on top of that, as damage over time for the next couple of seconds. Its damage is also doubled if cast after Thorvald is stunned.
The trick to completing World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s The Thane of Voldrune quest is watching out for his arrow volley attack, which deals a good chunk of damage and can sometimes hit your character, rather than the proto-drake.
Aside from dodging it and using Flame Breath as much as you can, you should try approaching your target, stunning it, then using Molten Fury whenever it’s available.
Once Thorvald is dead, return to the NPC who gave you the quest to complete it and get your rewards, which include character experience and reputation alongside a choice of one out of five potential green rarity items.
