Developer Goldhawk Interactive has announced that Hooded Horse will take over publishing duties for upcoming strategy game Xenonauts 2 as it heads towards its long-awaited early access release.
The publishing deal was described as “purely a marketing partnership,” where Hooded Horse “have no control over the design of the game.” The publisher will, however, handle community updates going forward and help shine a spotlight on Xenonauts 2 in preparation for its planned Q1 2023 early access launch.
Development “has gone well over the past two months,” according to the team behind the game, who plans to make the game’s closed beta available towards the end of this week.
Abduction Missions have been added, tasking players with rescuing civilians imprisoned in teleporter pods within a set number of turns.
To complete them, you need to save half of the civilians, but each extra pod recovered grants additional resources, incentivizing a more aggressive playstyle.
Grenades now also have arced throw paths, which means that you can now throw them over cover or walls.
“Implementing a curved arc in an abstract 3D tile grid has been quite a knotty problem,” the developer notes, “but it’s now working pretty well and it definitely opens up a lot more tactical options!”
In addition, “a lot more assets, small features and bugfixes” have also been introduced.
Achievements and cloud saves are functional, there are multiple new terrain tiles, including a complete rework of the Xenonaut Base tileset, alongside twenty new research reports, and more.
