NOT a good idea... not a good idea at all | To quote the guverner of California: "you are one ugly mother f*****" |
The Underworld story leaves of pretty much where Sacred ended. So, after you kill Shaddar and rescue baroness Vilya, she gets herself kidnapped again... by another demon no less (it's no surprise honestly; she is a hottie....raurr *naughty smile*). As an introduction to the game you see a cutscene portraying Vilya in her bed (raurr) dreaming of her beloved Valor, and how he was killed. That scene plunges you into the game... After you talk to Vilya, a mage standing by starts some kind of a ritual that obviously goes wrong when a demon emerges, kills the mage and takes Vilya with him (but oddly enough, leaves you alone). A true hero that you are, you follow them deeper into the Underworld...
Sacred: Underworld is the expansion pack for Ascaron entertainment's action RPG Sacred. Most players remember this game by its chaotic game style, plenty of bugs etc. But also by its interesting characters and very good (even if 2D) visuals, which are pretty much the two reasons anyone played it in the first place. Well, realizing their mistake, the developers quickly started work on Sacred Plus, a free update to the game which improved it, but still didn't quite complete it. So they made this expansion, redeeming them almost completely. This is the game it was originally meant to be. The expansion pack gave order to chaos, added numerous new items, new item sets and class-specific items, and two new characters to have fun with.
The Vampiress and the goblins, before... | ...and after |
In the original game, you were given a choice from 6 different characters (that were quite original); the Seraphim, Gladiator, Vampiress, Battle mage, Wood elf, and the Dark elf. Now you get a choice of 8 characters, adding the Dwarf and the Daemon (to be honest, I have no idea what the extra "a" stands for, but to each his own I guess). To get a brief intro to these two classes, read on.
The Daemon is a succubus and temptress. She uses different aspects of herself to increase her melee effectiveness, and while in one of those aspects, she can unleash the full fury of that aspect, leaving pretty much everything in a certain radius dead. She can also be played as a spell caster, using her second branch of skills to confuse, burn and then banish her foes. Her story begins after banishment from the Underworld by her wicked master. Her ultimate goal is to return and take vengeance upon the one that wronged her, and in doing so, she wreaks havoc on the upper world.
The Dwarf is the last of his kind. Thus it falls on his shoulders to make his race proud, wherever they may be. Dwarves were known for their advance knowledge of technology, their physical prowess and their lust for gold. He can use each of these skills to his own benefit. Rifles, pistols and hammers are his birthright, and he uses them so well... and his natural born instincts urge him to find profit wherever he may roam (to be a bit less cryptic, he shoots guns, bashes faces in with a hammer and has a skill that increases his gold income).
The demon in one of her aspects | Elves with light sabres, I wonder what comes next |
Not much more can be said really, so that pretty much summes it up. With this expansion, Sacred has become a game well worth playing; correcting numerous bugs, adding much needed order into chaos and giving a general work-around to the game. The two new characters and a new land mass which amounts to about half of the original game are a highly welcomed bonus as well. Can't wait for the sequel!
