SOE's Vanguard, Wizardry Online, Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures closing
Sony Online has announced the closure of four MMO properties as they each saw numbers dwindle so low they feel they couldn't justify keeping the doors open. "No more kids games," declares John Smedley. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes had been performing poorly "a long time", admits Smedley. Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures closed down first at the end of March.
E3 2012: Sony Online Entertainment announces the publisher's lineup
Sony Online Entertainment has revealed the massively multiplayer titles they plan to highlight at E3 2012. Some of them are older MMOs which are receiving new updates, while others are new games that will be released this year.
Sony announces MMO convention SOE Live
Sony has announced the debut of a new convention devoted to Sony Online Entertainment MMOs, SOE Live. The convention will be located in Las Vegas, NV from the 18th through 21st October this year. The convention will take place at the Bally's Casino. The games that will be showcased at the convention include DC Universe Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Free Realms, Magic: The Gathering - Tactics, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. The convention will also debut PlanetSide 2.
Clone Wars Adventures MMO gets "massive" expansion
Sony Online Entertainment has announced a huge open world combat expansion for the family-friendly, free-to-play MMO Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures. The expansion is a free update that will be launched on the 15th December. The expansion, called Battle of Umbara, features a large battlefield zone, a mission instance featuring the "Umbaran Airfield", a zone event and collections.
Clone War Adventures hits 8M subscribers
The "other" Star Wars MMO run by Sony Online Entertainment, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, has hit 8 million registered users one year after release. This comes in the wake of the upcoming closure of SOE's Star Wars Galaxies.
