At first glance, the Chest of the Mundane in Baldur’s Gate 3 might seem like any ordinary chest. However, its deceptive name and appearance hide its true utility. Beyond simply looting, it serves as a unique container where players can securely store their items and doubles as a Bag of Holding.
Since inventory management in Baldur’s Gate 3 is crucial, you’ll definitely want to carry this Chest with you. But how does it work and where can you find it? Here’s everything you need to know about the Chest of the Mundane in BG3.
BG3 Chest of the Mundane Location
What makes the Chest of the Mundane so special is that you can use it as a Bag of Holding to keep your items. Although it weighs 20kg, any item you put into it will turn into a weight of 0.5kg. It doesn’t matter if you put a heavy crossbow or a bulky great axe. As long as these are stored in the Chest of the Mundane, their weight will be reduced.
This proves invaluable, particularly for those inclined to hoard items throughout their journey. However, be aware that the chest has a capacity limit of 125 items. At some point, you’ll have to decide whether to sell or discard some of them.
In a recent update, this “bug” has apparently been fixed. You may not be able to use it as extra storage as before, but you can still find this chest to loot the items inside it. The Chest of the Mundane in BG3 can be found on the North Balcony of the Arcane Tower’s main floor in the Underdark.
You can also head to this coordinate as a reference: (X:-35, Y:-265). Inside the Mundane Chest, you will find a Scroll of Protection from Evil and Good, Mystra’s Grace boots, a Scroll of Mage Armour, a Gold Ingot, and a Hearthlight Bomb.
