It’s exciting to see how the perks in Dead by Daylight have increasingly become more and more creative and fun throughout the years. Speaking from the survivor’s side, now we’ve got flash grenades, hook stalls, and so much more, allowing for more counterplay and strategies.
Since Nicholas Cage will be arriving in the fog soon, the game’s about to welcome three new perks: Dramaturgy, Scene Partner, and Plot Twist. Of all three, Dramaturgy, in particular, has to be the most interesting due to its randomness aspect.
If you’re wondering how to use the Dramaturgy perk to its maximum potential in Dead by Daylight, this guide is for you. Below are some tips for using it and some perk combinations that’ll come in handy in-game.
What Does the Dramaturgy Perk Do?
Dramaturgy can only be activated when you are healthy or when the killer hasn’t landed a hit on you yet. While running, you can press the Active Ability button to run with knees high for 0.5 seconds to gain a +25 haste status effect for 2 seconds. After this ends, you will receive one of the following effects:
- Extend the duration of haste for an extra 2 seconds.
- Become exposed for 12 seconds.
- Scream without notifying the killer.
- Receive a random item of rare or higher rarity with random add-ons. With this effect, you will drop any previously held item.
Upon activating Dramaturgy, you will be exhausted for 60/50/40 seconds, meaning you won’t be able to use it again until you fully recover from exhaustion. In addition, while the effects are random, each can not be activated twice.
How to Use Dramaturgy in Dead by Daylight
The Dramaturgy perk is equivalent to a Russian Roulette. There’s no way of telling which effect you will receive when you activate it.
The best way to play around Dramaturgy is to loop the killer as long as you can to buy time, and as soon as the killer tries to close the gap, press the active ability button to sprint away. Doing this will allow you to make your way to the next loop or pallet while getting one of the perk’s effects.
Sometimes if you’re lucky, you may get a purple flashlight to stun and blind the killer at the right time or extend your haste duration. In other cases, you may also scream or become exposed, which means that you’re one-shot.
If you’ve used this perk several times in a chase, you should be able to know which effect you can expect at the end of the game. Use that knowledge to your advantage to gain the upper hand and escape.
Best Perks to Use with Dramaturgy in Dead by Daylight
Technically, you can’t really go wrong with whichever perk you choose when it comes to Dramaturgy, as long as they are not another exhaustion perk. If you have Quentin Smith, however, using the Vigil perk would be the safest pick.
This is because the Vigil perk increases your Recovery rate from the Blindness, Broken, Exhaustion, Exposed, Haemorrhage, Hindered, and Oblivious Status Effects, which applies to the other survivors nearby as well.
Meanwhile, Windows of Opportunity is a good option if you love looping killers. This perk lets you see pallets, windows, and other breakable objects nearby. This way, you’ll always know where to run to prolong the chase after activating Dramaturgy.
