Electronic Arts is one of the biggest videogames publishers with an abundance of intellectual properties to their name. Now they want a piece of the Hollywood pie.
Army of Two, Mirror’s Edge, Dead Space and Need For Speed got the nudge in EA’s announcement.
”We view EA as an emerging entertainment force, not just because they are a great untapped IP rights holder, but because at their core they care most about how viewers respond to their stories and creative vision,” says UTA partner Richard Klubeck.
Already in the pipeline is a live-action film based on The Sims franchise along with an animated-show set on the MySims games. I almost dread to think what they’re going to be like.
To compliment their upcoming Dead Space property a direct-to-DVD animation, that’s a prequel to the videogame, is being put together with another to come later.
EA does have many rich IPs they could easily tap into - let’s just hope they actually pick some decent ones in the future and not have us gamers cringe.
