Blue Omega is no more, they were the team behind the Damnation game for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC which hasn’t fared well in its reception with critics.
Legal papers have revealed a number of problems involving subcontractors and issues with publisher Codemasters. One accused Codies of dropping them from the project.
Codemasters had forcefully removed Blue Omega from the Damnation project at one time, revealed a suit filed on January 20th this year reports Shacknews. Blue Omega had subcontracted Velvetelvis Studios and Point of View to help with the game, and landed both in legal complaints.
When ‘forced off’ the project they allege that Codemasters continued development of Damnation with Point of View five days later, which Blue Omega then asked for $75,000 in damages from POV.
”At the time that this arrangement was proposed by Codemasters and POV, Blue Omega had paid POV timely for all amounts owed.. under that contract,” read the legal suit. ”Codemasters, however, remained significantly in arrears in amounts it owed to Blue Omega.”
The complaint was voluntarily withdrawn by Blue Omega, however another was launched on February 25th involving Velvetelvis’ apparent lack of professional work on Damnation.
”16. VES’s failures forced Blue Omega to divert resources, incur costs, and retain another contractor–all in an effort to complete and remedy the unfinished and unacceptable work product provided by VES.”
”17. VES’s untimely provision of ‘Deliverables’ also rendered it impossible for Blue Omega to meet its deadline with Codemasters, thereby causing Blue Omega to incur additional costs and expenses.”
A lot of hassle for a game with an average metacritic in the mid to high thirties. ”The entire Blue Omega team was laid off”, twittered ex-Omega programmer Geoff Rowland.
