Publisher EA and Twentieth Century Fox have combined might to get Spore on the big silver screen, with Ice Age director Chris Wedge attached. Spore ”provides the potential”.
Spore is the creation of Maxis and Will Wright which has players design and control their very own species, and eventually a space faring civilization. EA and Fox see a film in it.
”I’m always looking for unique worlds to go to in animation,” says director Wedge, reports Variety. ”From every perspective – visually, thematically and comedically – the world of ‘Spore’ provides the potential to put something truly original on the screen.”
Greg Erb and Jason Oremland will be scribbling a script for the Spore movie, and have previously penned Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” and Paramount’s “The Return of King Doug”. Spore will be a CG-animated film produced by EA and Blue Sky Studios.
Spore has a whole has sold over 3.2 million copies worldwide, and ”with more than 100 million unique creatures uploaded to our website, it’s clear that people are passionate about the game, and it will be exciting to offer a powerful medium like film in order to expand their experience with ‘Spore,’ “ said EA Maxis VP Lucy Bradshaw.
