In a bid to help parents get with it and understand today’s edgy kid and teen scene, the company has given the green light to Get Game Smart.
It’s a parental awareness website that provides friendly info on videogaming for the family in ”fun, effective and creative ways,” like offering big fat prizes, and ”Make a PACT” pledges.
”I’m a dad, and I know how important it is for parents to get involved with their children’s video gaming and media experiences, not to mention feel equipped to make sure those experiences are as fun and safe as possible,” said Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division president Robbie Bach.
The site is primarily designed to help parents and kids communicate better when it comes to videogaming. It’s sponsored up to the eyeballs by family-focused organizations and charities.
”The campaign reaches parents and their children in fun, effective and creative ways,” said child online safety advocate and partner to Game Smart Campaign, Parry Aftab. ”This is a meaningful and fun campaign to get families to enjoy technology together and help them make smart decisions about balanced use of online media and video game.”
Gift card prizes from Best Buy range from a modest $100 up to $5000, and a family is eligible when they complete ”Gold Challenges”.
These ‘challenges’ are mostly just about providing information on ratings, tips for parental controls etc. Some however require more participation like ”Submit Your Story”, a section where families share what they do when it comes to managing videogames with the chance of having their story featured on the site.
”Kids have the fastest fingers in the universe - piloting game controllers, flipping remotes, clicking keyboards. Here, you’ll find everything you need to help your children make smart choices about what they play, watch and browse,” reads the site.
