The unveiling of Project Natal means more than just an added peripheral, with sources bleating that it’ll in fact herald in the next Xbox chapter.
Back alley whispers also suggest these new consoles will be branded ‘Xbox Natal’, with slight technological upgrades to hardware. It doesn’t end the console cycle, but evolves the 360.
Natal has been roughly estimated to grace our living rooms late next year, but that’s as far as Microsoft revealed they were going with the technology. Now it appears, according to sources close to 1UP, that Natal is far more than just Microsoft’s motion-sensing prize pet.
All current Xbox 360 games would of course work with this new ”upgraded, repackaged, and rebranded” console. Perhaps this is partly in response to some developers claiming they’ve tapped out the platform in terms of power. Apparently this new evolved Xbox will be unveiled at GDC 2010, with Fall 2010 their target for launch.
We live in interesting times…
