The upcoming fourth instalment to the mob drama is exclusively releasing on PS3 in Japan next year, and now details have surfaced from script writer Masayoshi Yokoyama.
The game has four characters that you play through, but you don’t switch between them at will. You live through each as a piece or angle of a ”single incident “. Kamurocho has expanded.
”Even with four heroes, we didn’t want to make it completely open-ended with regards to how you play the game,” Yokoyama-san told Famitsu magazine, reports 1UP.
”That would have robbed Yakuza of the unique passion its story has. Instead, we have you play each of the four characters’ stories individually, and they come together to form a single story in the end. You view and get involved with a single incident from multiple angles.”
Kamurocho is the fictional red light district created in Yakuza, and is where the story will be taking place. The cast involves big time Yakuza boss Kiryu, but he won’t be the main character. The others are Shun Akiyama, a former homeless man turned loan shark; Taiga Saejima, an escaped yakuza assassin; and Masayoshi Tanimura, a corrupt detective.
Gameplay details are thin on the ground but the Kamurocho district has been revealed as fully developed, letting players explore back alleys, sewers and even rooftops. More is likely to come from the Tokyo Game Show floor this week.
