The PlayStation 3 embargo in Europe has been lifted, after LG demanded that all Blu-Ray devices was an infringement of their patents and filed an injunction with the courts. The injunction was not extended, as expected, and PlayStation 3’s may flow once again - though only Sweden had actually embargoed any PS3’s.
This is not to say that Sony is out of the woods in the suit. The lawsuits being exchanged by the two companies will still move forward as planned. If Sony is found guilty, it would be forced to pay somewhere between $2.50 and $2.55 for each device sold. By those figures, $150-180 million would be owed for devices sold in the past, and with future payments, LG would look to receive in excess of $350 million.
However, right now, LG is forced to pay a little more than $179,000 to cover legal fees due to the temporary embargo of 300,000 PS3 units.
